As the temperature approached 30 degrees on a glorious summer day the band took their places in the Queens Park bandstand surrounded by the most wonderful floral displays. Starting with a traditional march, Semper Fidelis, we performed a wide range of popular pieces including several which we were playing for the first time in the park. The Traitors theme was followed by Bring Him Home featuring our first trumpet player Sue Boyles. Swing The Mood put our audience "In The Mood" as they "Rocked Around The Clock" with the "Hound Dog". After "Shake Rattle and Roll" they were "All Shook Up" "At The Hop" and were back in the mood for our final piece of the first half, a selection from Grease.
The second half followed in a similar vein guided expertly by Yvonne, our compere for the day, despite some initial microphone troubles. New pieces Last of the Summer Wine, Let's Face the Music and Dance, and Tomorrow (from Annie) were enjoyed by the enthusiastic audience and after that old favourite of ours, Highland Cathedral, we wrapped up the concert with The Muppets featuring Mah Na Mah Na. Well done all players who performed superbly in the heat and thank you to everyone who came to support us and to Charnwood Borough Council for the amazing displays in the park.
