A successful day at Newark Castle

[Sunday 17th July 2016]

This year we’ve stretched our legs and played further afield. The Newark Castle booking was part of this. The beautiful setting was matched by beautiful weather and the crowd came bearing deck chairs to listen to us. We were even introduced by a presenter from Radio Newark who stirred up the audience to give us a warm welcome.

We opened with The Voice of the Guns which ended – most surprisingly – with a fly past from a Spitfire! The programme proceeded with a variety of pieces, including The Phantom of the Opera medley, English Folk Song Suite and Eddie Pearson’s favourite Highland Cathedral. Eddie came with us to compere again and revealed that his favourite Bond was Sean Connery when introducing Skyfall.

After a break for an ice cream we started again and continued our programme with such favourites as Those Magnificent Men, Humoresque  and The Lost Chord. Ruth Greenaway took the solo spot for Take Five and the afternoon closed with American Trilogy and Hootenany.

The appreciative audience applauded enthusiastically and the organiser talked to Ian about a repeat performance in 2017!
